The Paul Bocuse Market Hall
In the 3rd arrondissement, the Halles Paul-Bocuse pay tribute to the Michelin-starred chef who passed away in 2018. Cheesemongers, butchers, fishmongers, pastry chefs and bistros share the stage. A tray of oysters shared at the counter or a pink praline tart from a pastry chef quickly becomes the prelude to a real date: you taste, compare, hesitate between a rosette and a creamy Saint-Marcellin.
Step into a bouchon
The Lyonnais bouchons, officially labelled authentic by the city, serve the local comfort food: tablier de sapeur, salade de museau, quenelle of pike, cervelle de canut. You sit at small chequered tablecloths, share a pot of Beaujolais, and conversation flows naturally. For a relaxed first date, it is a safe bet, especially in the lanes around Rue Mercière or Old Lyon.
Vineyards on the city’s doorstep
As soon as you leave Lyon northwards, Beaujolais unfurls its golden hills with ten renowned crus, from Fleurie to Morgon. To the south stretches the Côtes-du-Rhône vineyard, from Condrieu to Hermitage. A tasting at a wine-grower’s cellar, a picnic among the vines, and the day takes on a special flavour. On Lyad, foodies from Lyon share their favourite addresses; it is up to you to find someone to uncork the bottle with.
